Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo 2025

The popular small Opel is taking shape in a new generation. Next Corsa will offer traditional combustion engines as well

The Stellantis group, which includes the Opel car brand among others, had been planning a radical transformation in the small car segment. Urban vehicles were to be based on the STLA Small platform, which was originally designed exclusively for electric vehicles. However, everything has taken a different turn, and this also affects the development of the next-generation Opel Corsa.

The new Opel Corsa, generation G, is reportedly being prepared for 2027. It will arrive around the same time as the new Peugeot 208, with which it will continue to share its technical foundation.

That foundation will be the previously announced STLA Small platform, which was designated by Stellantis for small vehicles. But a major change is underway: engineers are currently modifying it to support traditional combustion engines as well—most likely in the form of a mild-hybrid drivetrain combining a petrol three-cylinder engine with an electric motor.

This means that the future Opel Corsa will not be fully electric, as originally planned, but will also offer a mild-hybrid powertrain. It’s a logical move—like many other manufacturers, Opel is slowing down its previously planned full transition to electromobility. Sales of electric cars are falling short of expectations, so offering only such vehicles wouldn’t make business sense.

The design of the vehicle has already been previewed this year with the sporty concept car Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo. Created for the iconic video game series Gran Turismo, this design study will also be presented in real life at the upcoming IAA Mobility auto show in Munich.

“It not only shows what can be developed on the small car platform but also offers a glimpse into the future and appeals to all car enthusiasts,” says Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel. His words confirm that the sporty GSE sub-brand will expand its lineup in the future.

According to most indications, the sporty concept hints at several features of the upcoming Corsa. If that proves true, it will be a distinctively styled car with a unique front end, dominated by the Opel Vizor, which will undergo further evolution.

Opel and Vauxhall – two names, one brand

Opel is a traditional German car manufacturer that belongs to the same group as the British brand Vauxhall. The models that British drivers know as Vauxhall are sold across continental Europe under the Opel badge. For example, the well-known Vauxhall Corsa in the UK is offered in the Czech Republic and throughout Europe as the Opel Corsa. For expats from the UK, it’s easy to recognize – they are the same cars, only with a different logo on the bonnet.
