A car for two persons: Tips on which best to choose

A car for two persons is a broad term, as such a vehicle can appeal to a wide range of customers and, as a result, can have completely different features. A young couple, for example, might be looking for such a model with entirely different expectations than an older couple for whom a car for two will also suffice in retirement. A car for two might also be a convertible or a sports car, aimed at speed enthusiasts. Whatever you may be looking for in such a vehicle, we’ll help you choose the right one.

If we don’t look straight into the world of sports cars, we’ll be choosing mainly among small cars or urban SUVs. In the past, three-door hatchbacks often served the role of a car for two, but they have practically disappeared in recent years. Since this website focuses on new cars, we’ll primarily cover new small cars and SUVs, but we’ll also include some interesting sports car tips. Many of the cars mentioned can easily carry more than two people, but you’ll enjoy them most when driving as a pair.

City mini car for two persons

If you only need a car for city use, it’s best to look in the mini car segment. Its offer in Europe has narrowed significantly in recent years, but there are still good options available. I personally recommend the Hyundai i10 – a surprisingly grown-up mini vehicle. It drives well, comes with an unexpectedly rich set of features, and is spacious by the standards of its class.

An economical car for two persons

If you’re after a fuel-efficient car, Toyota’s hybrid offerings are hard to miss – they really are very economical. The Toyota Yaris is suitable for two people thanks to its compact size and overall setup, which makes it ideal especially for urban use. But in fact, even the more universal Toyota Corolla can be considered a car for two – in the hatchback version, there isn’t much space in the back.

A compact car for two

A car for two can also be chosen among compact cars. Three-door models have disappeared from the market, but some current options are still compact enough to serve as two-seaters. In this category, I recommend the Mazda 3 – great-looking, excellent to drive, and with a beautiful interior – or the Peugeot 308, which also has a unique design, a premium cabin, and a comfortable suspension.

Electric car for two persons

The range of electric cars has expanded in all directions, so today you can easily get an EV suitable for two. We have two tips for you. One is the stylish Honda e – fun to drive, agile, and featuring an interesting interior. The other is the equally stylish Fiat 500e, with a comfortable suspension, agile driving characteristics, and low consumption.

SUV for two persons

SUVs now come in all shapes and sizes, so there’s something for everyone. If you’re looking for an SUV for two, go for a city crossover – some are so compact that they’re best suited for two people. One such case is the Kia Stonic, with an attractive price tag and simple mechanicals, or the Opel Mokka – a stylish model with good driving manners.

Off-road vehicle for two persons

SUVs might not be enough for those looking for serious off-road capabilities. In that case, look no further than the tiny Suzuki Jimny – its compact size makes it unbeatable off-road. And it also looks great. However, it’s currently only available as a used car.

Sports car for two persons

Of course, a sports car can also serve as a car for two. The clear winner here is the brotherly duo of Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86. Excellent driving dynamics, attractive pricing, and – in the latest generation – a strong engine are the main draws of this pair. Which one should you choose? It’s not so much a matter of preference as availability. Due to European safety regulations, production is limited, so unfortunately, not everyone will get one.

Convertible for two persons

Driving under the open sky – that’s a dream for any car enthusiast during sunny spring or fall days. Convertibles aren’t particularly practical, which means virtually all of them are suited for two people – even the largest ones don’t offer much space in the back. In fact, many are presented as “2+2” only. But if you’re looking for a true two-seater convertible, the long-standing Mazda MX-5 roadster is a fantastic choice. It drives brilliantly and comes at a fair price.
