Motorways in the Czech Republic will continue to be tolled in 2025, using vignettes. For several years now, these have been electronic instead of paper. How much do they cost? On which motorways is it compulsory to have a Czech vignette? And where to buy them? Find out in the following overview.
The one-day motorway vignette for 2025 costs CZK 210, which is ten crowns more than year before. The ten-day vignette costs CZK 290, and the monthly vignette CZK 460. The annual price of vignette for Czech motorways is CZK 2,440 starting January 2025.
| Validity period | One-day vignette 2025 | Ten-day vignette 2025 | Monthly (30-day) vignette 2025 | Annual vignette 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| From 1 January 2025 | CZK 210 (EUR 8.50) | CZK 290 (EUR 11.75) | CZK 460 (EUR 18.65) | CZK 2,440 (EUR 99) |
The price corresponds to the automatic indexation mechanism introduced last year. The rates are adjusted – either upward or downward – based on two clearly defined criteria. The first is the year-on-year percentage change in the average annual consumer price index as determined by the Czech Statistical Office. The second is the year-on-year percentage change in the total length of motorways in operation, as recorded by the Ministry of Transport. The two percentages are added together and the result determines the adjustment of the annual vignette rate. The prices of the other vignettes are then derived from the annual rate, rounded down to the nearest ten crowns.
“We included the automatic indexation mechanism for all time-based toll rates in the law to maintain a long-term stable pricing level that reflects both price developments and the extent of the motorway network,” explains Transport Minister Martin Kupka, who emphasizes that the revenue from vignettes is reinvested into the construction and maintenance of the domestic motorway network.
The new prices also reflect the mandatory proportionality between the prices of individual types of vignettes, as prescribed by a European directive. According to the Eurovignette Directive, EU Member States are obliged to observe a mandatory ceiling when setting prices for time-based tolls. The monthly vignette must not exceed 19% of the annual rate, the ten-day vignette must remain within 12%, and a new daily vignette will be priced at 9% of the annual fee. This is also one of the reasons behind the lower price for short-term vignettes.
The European directive also introduced changes regarding free use of motorways. It allows the time-based toll to be waived only for zero-emission vehicles, specifically those powered by electricity or hydrogen. Plug-in hybrid vehicles emitting up to 50 g CO₂/km, which were previously exempt from tolls on Czech motorways, still benefit from a significant discount.
They pay 25% of the full toll, which means that in 2025 the annual vignette for such vehicles costs CZK 610. Vehicles running on compressed natural gas (CNG) or biomethane also enjoy lower prices. On the other hand, LPG-powered vehicles pay the full rate.
| Fuel type | One-day 2025 | Ten-day 2025 | Monthly (30-day) 2025 | Annual 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Biomethane | CZK 100 | CZK 140 | CZK 230 | CZK 1,220 |
| CNG | CZK 100 | CZK 140 | CZK 230 | CZK 1,220 |
| LPG | CZK 100 | CZK 140 | CZK 230 | CZK 1,220 |
| Plug-in hybrid (≤50 g CO₂) | CZK 50 | CZK 70 | CZK 110 | CZK 610 |
Prices valid from 1 January 2025
One of the main advantages of the electronic motorway vignette is the simplicity of purchase. It can be bought online, whether on a computer, smartphone, or tablet. The official e-shop is available at eDalnice.cz.
The process is simple. On the e-shop:
A confirmation email will be sent upon successful payment. If you make a mistake while entering the data, you can still edit it within 15 minutes. If you purchase the vignette in advance, changes are allowed up to the start date – but only once. When placing the order, you can also provide contact information to receive a notification before the vignette expires.
The State Fund for Transport Infrastructure emphasizes that this is the only official e-shop where the vignette can be purchased without additional fees. Other websites may be unofficial, charge extra, and may pose a risk of personal data loss.
The vignette can still also be purchased in physical locations, such as self-service kiosks found at Czech Post offices or EuroOil petrol stations.
In 2025, a vignette will still be required on all sections of roads marked with the “Motorway” and “End of Motorway” signs. The specific segments are listed in the current regulation issued by the Ministry of Transport. However, there are certain sections exempt from tolls, typically city bypasses (e.g. around Plzeň, Brno, or parts of the Prague Ring Road), which are marked with additional signs reading “No time-based toll” or “No time-based toll or distance toll.”
Examples include the following segments:
With the introduction of the electronic motorway vignette, the method of enforcement has changed. Special patrol vehicles equipped with automatic license plate recognition systems, as well as control gantries, are used. Therefore, it is crucial to enter the correct registration plate when purchasing the vignette.
Inspections are conducted by the Czech Police and the Customs Administration.
A fine of up to CZK 20,000 may be imposed for driving on a toll road without paying the required fee.
You can use the online form on the website eDalnice.cz, where you enter your vehicle’s license plate number.
Since March 2024, the shortest option is the one-day vignette. However, for most drivers, the ten-day vignette is still more economical.
The cheapest vignette is the one-day vignette, costing CZK 210 in 2025 for regular vehicles. If your car runs on biomethane or CNG, you’ll pay half that price. Plug-in hybrids with emissions under 50 g/km will pay just CZK 50. Electric vehicles are fully exempt from tolls.
Motorcycles and trailers do not require a vignette. The fee also does not apply to electric vehicles (battery or hydrogen-powered), historic vehicles with special license plates, holders of ZTP or ZTP/P disability cards, vehicles transporting dependent children undergoing treatment for cancer or hemoblastosis, or vehicles operated by homes for people with disabilities, provided they are used for transporting these individuals. As foreign individual you need to fill in special form to avoid a fee, if you have an electric vehicle.
