Volkswagen ID.Polo 2026 teaser

The new Volkswagen Polo is partly revealed. It will arrive in 2026, however the current generation will still be available on the market. Fortunately

Volkswagen Polo has been an important part of the brand’s lineup for decades—it just marked its 50th anniversary on the scene! Still, there had been speculation about its possible end, or more precisely, about it being replaced by an electric vehicle. But the brand’s leadership recognized the popularity of the name, and so the Polo will continue—in the future as the Volkswagen ID.Polo.

As expected, the German automaker is changing its naming strategy for the electric ID. family—electric Volkswagens will now adopt iconic nameplates. The ID.Cross (as an alternative to the T-Cross) has been confirmed; ID.Golf and ID.Tiguan are also expected. An ID.Passat might join them as well.

The arrival of the ID.Polo does not mean the end of the current generation. The combustion-engine Polo will continue to be sold as an alternative to the electric ID.Polo. Electric mobility is not as in demand as once expected, so keeping the combustion-engine Polo is a logical choice. After all, a new Renault Clio is also set to arrive, to be sold alongside the electric Renault 5.

New vehicles for 2026

Let’s take a look at new cars planned for 2026 we already know something about.

Renault Twingo prototype

The new Volkswagen ID.Polo will arrive in 2026 as the production version of the ID.2all concept, directly inspired by its shapes—as proven by official photos of camouflaged prototypes. The style will therefore be relatively conservative, in the spirit of classic Volkswagens. Its size will be roughly comparable to the conventional Polo, with a length of 4,053 mm. Inside, we can expect a 10.1″ digital instrument cluster and a 12.9″ infotainment display.

In addition to regular versions, a performance variant—the ID.Polo GTI—is also planned, bringing the legendary GTI badge into the electric era. The electric hot hatch is expected to deliver around 168 kW of power.

At the core of the ID.Polo will be the new MEB Entry platform, designed for affordable electric cars. It will offer front-wheel drive, and the ID.Polo will come with a choice of two battery packs—38 kWh and 56 kWh. The ID.Polo and ID.Polo GTI will make their first public appearance, albeit still camouflaged, at the upcoming IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, taking place from September 8 to 14, 2025.
